Google has been cracking down on fraudulent business profiles for a while now but now they are taking another step to protect consumers. They have implemented a new policy to display a warning on Business Profiles where fake reviews have been removed. We haven't seen this warning yet and are curious if it will be applied to business profiles that once had fake negative reviews removed. We suspect that Google might be more focused on punishing business profiles with positive fake reviews rather than those with negative ones that have been removed.

The Power of Fake Reviews

Online fake Google reviews can help or hurt a business's digital reputation. Fake positive or fake negative reviews can be used maliciously to help boost rankings or damage a rival's business. Google's new policy is here to help combat the issue and ensure a level playing field for everyone online.

Warning System

When Google's algorithm detects fake reviews associated with a Business Profile, it will take action to remove those reviews. They will also place a visible warning on the profile. This warning will alert potential customers that fake reviews have been identified and removed.

All Potential Restrictions

If a business is found to have violated Google's Fake Engagement policy, it may face other consequences such as:

  • Temporary review freeze: The business profile will be prevented from receiving new reviews for a specific period.
  • Removal of existing reviews: The business's existing reviews and ratings may be temporarily unpublished.
  • Warning sign: A warning will be displayed on the profile, informing consumers that previous fake reviews were removed.

Authentic Reviews

Genuine reviews help consumers make informed decisions. They provide valuable insights into a business's products, services, and customer satisfaction. They also boost your rankings online. All businesses should only be gathering new authentic reviews from people they have helped or serviced.

Remember that simply asking for a review is the first step!
